One of the most frequent questions we get is: «do you also correct the text?». The answer is no, and it's worth explaining why that boundary is a deliberate choice that protects service quality and keeps prices affordable.
Two different crafts
Content editing deals with what the text says : copyediting, reference normalization, peer review, translation. Typesetting deals with how it is presented : composition, typography, figure placement and export to publication formats. They are different competencies, with different responsibilities.
Why the boundary benefits the journal
Keeping scope on typesetting has three positive effects for the client:
- Clear pricing. You pay for composition, not for open-ended hours of correction. You know what you pay for.
- Clear responsibility. Text and citations are the journal's or author's responsibility; presentation is Macomti's. No one steps on each other.
- Speed. Without content editorial rounds, typesetting flows and the first proof arrives in ~1 week.
If your journal also needs copyediting, we're glad to recommend a copyeditor; we make sure the result looks impeccable. See our services .
Update (October 2026). This boundary still governs our work for journals. For authors we have opened Macomti Authors , which does include English and Spanish language editing and creating graphics from their data and sketches. What doesn't change: we don't write scientific content, we don't touch data or results, and if a paper we prepared for its author later reaches a client journal, we tell the journal.
